Ashley Brookshier, Ph.D., NCSP

Ashley Brookshier, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist in the state of Arizona, a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, and a Nationally Registered Health Service Psychologist. Dr. Brookshier is the Lead Psychologist in Arion Care Services and created the Psychology Department. Dr. Brookshier received her undergraduate degree in English with a minor in Psychology from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. She then graduated with honors from Northern Arizona University with a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. She pursued post-doctoral residency training in a clinical hospital setting. There, she worked closely with integrative medical teams to clarify diagnoses, design appropriate treatment plans, and provide mental health care to patients across the spectrum of age and health.

After her residency training, Dr. Brookshier received further training in neuropsychological assessment and autism assessment and diagnosis. She decided to move away from the realm of clinical psychology and worked within the public education sector, providing school psychology services to children identified with severe behavior and emotional concerns. She has provided several trainings to school districts, residential treatment facilities, and university classrooms about the principles of trauma-informed care and the importance of early intervention. She has also lectured as an Associate Professor and supervised counselors-in-training.

Dr. Brookshier enjoys the practice of yoga and regular mindfulness meditation. She typically spends her free time pursuing new knowledge and writing creatively, and she is currently learning American Sign Language to better support clients of all levels of hearing and verbal ability. Her therapeutic approach combines evidence-based practices including trauma-informed care, acceptance and commitment therapy, and self-compassion. She employs a client-centered approach and firmly believes that the client should remain informed and be an active participant in their own therapeutic treatment planning and care. She is motivated to practice good self-care and live a life aligned with her own values so she can help clients do the same.
